OPPOSITES REACT II: LIVE MUSIC EVENT WITH STRINGS, GUITARS, ELECTRONICS AND VIDEO
Richard Norris, Modulus Quartet, Stevon and The Well Wishers, Sa Guarda Studios and Magnetic Foragers bring an exciting new music and multimedia performance to the Leeds Digital Festival. Music will be performed by a host of internationally acclaimed musicians pushing the boundaries of multimedia performance and genres ranging from ambient to electro to classical.
An hour-long performance will develop the idea of “music-painting” – visuals and atmospheres, from the rock surfaces of Striations (in collaboration with Stockholm University) to the Californian Pearblossom Highway. Described as “a unique approach to combining opposing sound-worlds”, live and electronic instruments will be combined to create atmospheres blending looping, synthesis and on-the-fly audio manipulation. Opposites React II will première four new pieces.
Opposites React is a project that combines musicians and artists with their individual art forms. The concept is forward-looking whilst retaining a proud nod to the past. From classical composition through to electro, all genres and approaches can be explored.
Opposites React II will explore the use of new technology, in particular new sample libraries from Unorthodox Audio and the Vochlea Dubler MIDI Microphone. Following its first outing in 2012 the concept has developed with the integration of technology at the heart of this progression.
A free lunchtime interactive workshop will also take place at 1.30pm. This will be in the form of a live jam where participants (and viewers) can be as involved as little or as much as they like in creating sounds through audio and MIDI triggering. Compositional ideas can also be tried with a string quartet. The Vochlea Dubler will be at the heart of this setup.
A pre-recorded installation will follow by audio-visual duo, Magnetic Foragers, after the performance.
