Northern Noir

23rd January - 7:00 pm

The five acts of Northern Noir are based on the poetry of Omari Swanston – Jeffers, Maria Dakova, Pariss Elektra, Natasha Joseph and Samra Mayanja and take the audience on a journey starting with Old Noir, that explores the societal conditioning that we all receive as children and young adults.

The second act introduces Masculinity, exploring first its toxic side and its path towards liberation within both genders.
During the third act the creators introduce us to what it means to be a black person in the UK today. Personal experiences and incredible sharing and motivation can be found within this part.

Femininity presents the fourth act and is established as a question mark. It questions the status quo of women, but also overall the tendency of neglecting the feminine energy within both genders and the still prevailing patriarchal societal views.

The evening ends with Northern Noir, or New Noir or maybe even New Black, as the creators share. Within this act the audience has the opportunity to explore the vision and aim of the three creatives, a world of equality on all levels, gender, colour, sexual orientation, ability and age.

Completed is the unique experience with a small exhibition of specially created art pieces by Natasha Joseph and Omari Swanston – Jeffers.
“We want to inspire young people and artists of all ages to trust in themselves and follow their ambitions, embrace their differences and to communicate that people of colour have agency and their voices and stories are valuable.”  Maria Dakova, Omari Swanston – Jeffers, Ashley Karrell
