Screen Seven -XXY

Monday  02/08/2010  8pm Tickets : £5 /£3.50 conc

A moving teen drama, XXY has been gathering festival plaudits in the run-up to this UK release. Alex isn’t like other girls. Her parents keep her hidden away at a coastal town in amongst the dunes of the shoreline, buying time before they must decide on a life-threatening operation.

“Director Puenzo rises to the challenge of its difficult sexual subject matter. The centerpiece of XXY is a feral performance by Inés Efron as the confused youth. But supporting characters are all thoroughly nuanced, and this injects a powerful humanism. The result is a tough, engaging, extremely touching work of cinema. - Richard James Havis, Hollywood Reporter
